Bhargavastra Missile will be game changer for india

India’s air defense system has now become more powerful than before; India’s own micro missile system or anti-drone system known as Bhargavastra missile and Bhargavastra micro missile system is now fully ready, and very soon it will be deployed on India’s borders.
India is now rapidly becoming self-reliant in the defense sector, and with the Bhargavastra micro missile system, India has made its air defense even stronger, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the air defence system of India. The bhargavastra micro missile system designed is a critical component of the air defence system of India.

Why Need of Bhargavastra Micro Missile system to india ?

The nature of war in the world is changing rapidly; the wars which were earlier fought with guns, tanks, and fighter jets are now being fought with drones and missiles. In such an era of electronic and artificial intelligence warfare, it was necessary for India to have its own anti-drone system which could thwart the enemy’s attack with precision, thus enhancing the air defence system of India, which is vital for the security of the nation.

What is the Bhargavastra missile or anti drone system ?

The Bhargavastra missile is India’s first indigenous micro-missile system or counter-drone system, and it is developed by Economic Explosives Ltd (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries. It was successfully tested in January 2025 and 13th May 2025 at the Gopalpur Seaward Firing Ranges in Odisha, marking a significant advancement in the air defence system of India and its capabilities in modern warfare.

Key features of this missile system –

Tracking :-

Detects medium-to-large UAVs up to 10 km away.

Detects micro-drones up to 6 km away.

Capable of identifying targets with a radar cross-section as small as 0.01 square meters.

Engagement Range :-

Engages targets at ranges exceeding 2.5 km.

Effective up to altitudes of 400 meters

Missile System :-

Equipped with 64 micro-missiles in a canisterized launcher.

Each missile features lock-on-after-launch and homing capabilities.

Capable of launching all 64 missiles in a single salvo at one-second intervals.

Response Time & Mobility : –

Detect to Intercept” time of less than 16 seconds.

Mounted on a 4×4 high-mobility vehicle, allowing rapid deployment across diverse terrains, including high-altitude regions up to 5,000 meters

Command and Control :-

Utilizes advanced C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence) systems.

Integrates artificial intelligence for enhanced threat detection, analysis, and targeting decisions.

What is the significance of this missile system in modern Warfare ?

The Bhargavastra system represents a significant advancement in India’s defense capabilities, particularly in countering the growing threat of drone swarms.  Its ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously with high precision makes it a formidable asset for the Indian Armed Forces.  The system’s mobility and rapid response time enhance its effectiveness in diverse operational scenarios.

By integrating advanced technologies and offering a cost-effective solution, Bhargavastra aligns with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reducing dependency on foreign defense imports and boosting domestic innovation.

Target Engagement Capabilities of Bhargavastra :-

The system is equipped with a launcher that holds 64 micro-missiles, which can all be launched in quick succession (1-second intervals). Each missile is guided and designed for individual drone engagement, making it effective against swarms.

The system includes AI-powered fire control and EO/IR sensors, enabling it to track, identify, and lock onto multiple drones at once, even those with a low radar signature.

Detection Coverage of Bhargavastra : –

Micro-drones: Detected up to 6 km away.

Larger drones: Detected up to 10 km away.

Altitude engagement: Effective up to 400 meters.

Practical Implication :-

In real-world swarm scenarios, Bhargavastra can engage up to 64 drones at once — making it one of the most efficient counter-drone systems India has fielded to date. This capability is especially critical for defending strategic assets from saturation drone attacks.

Types of Air defence System in India :-

Long Range Air Defence System –

S 400 Triumph :

This is the high performance surface to air missile system and it can detect the target up to 600 KM and it can engage the target up to 400 KM

Ballistic Missile Defence System :-

It is designed to intercept incoming ballistic missile at different altitude and this is include Prithvi Air Defence and Advance Air Defence system.

Medium Range Air Defence System : –

In this system there is three types of variant includes that is Akash Air Defence System, Barak 8, and QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile).
